The Santa Hustle in Galveston brings runners, walkers, families, and plenty of holiday costumes to Beach Central. The morning combines the excitement of a road race with the fun of a Christmas celebration. Participants can choose a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, or Kids Dash. As a result, both experienced runners and casual participants can find a way to join the fun.
PICK YOUR CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE
You don’t need to train for a half marathon to earn your place among the Santas. In fact, the day’s schedule includes several distances for runners of different ages and abilities.
First, the Kids Dash begins at 7:30 a.m. The Half Marathon starts at 8:00 a.m. Then, the 10K and 5K begin at 8:15 a.m. Because event details can change, participants should confirm the schedule as race day approaches.
The Kids Dash features a 1K course for children ages 12 and younger. Parents can also run alongside their registered child at no additional charge. Young runners receive a race bib, long-sleeve shirt, Santa hat and beard, and finisher medal.
EXPECT A FINISH LINE WITH A LITTLE EXTRA CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
This Santa Hustle in Galveston isn’t a race where everyone packs up the moment they cross the finish line. Instead, holiday touches continue throughout the experience. Festive attire also adds to the Christmas atmosphere.
Expect to see Santa hats, beards, Christmas sweaters, and plenty of other seasonal outfits along the course. Together, they create a scene you won’t find during an ordinary Sunday morning run.
After crossing the finish line, participants can celebrate with cookies, candy, and hot cocoa. Registered runners also receive event swag and a finisher medal. In addition, runners can collect distance pins for completing the Half Marathon, 10K, or 5K.
START YOUR MORNING WITH THE SANTA HUSTLE IN GALVESTON
Race headquarters will be at Beach Central, located at 2102 Seawall Boulevard. This location puts participants along one of Galveston’s most recognizable stretches of coastline.
Race organizers recommend arriving early due to expected street closures and heavier traffic. Participants can plan to park at the Beach Central Parking Garage or along the north side of the Seawall. Meanwhile, organizers plan to close the south side of the Seawall for the race.
If you’re traveling from outside Galveston, consider arriving the day before. That way, you can avoid a long drive on race morning. Organizers plan to offer pre-race packet pickup on Saturday, December 19. However, they have not yet announced the time and location.
Paid adult participants can also pick up their packets at Beach Central on race day for a fee.
DON’T HEAD HOME WHEN THE RACE IS OVER
Crossing the finish line doesn’t have to signal the end of your Galveston weekend. In fact, December 20 falls during two of the island’s popular holiday experiences.
