Santa suits and running shoes might not be the first combination that comes to mind when you picture Christmas on the Texas coast. On Sunday, December 20, 2026, they will be right at home on Galveston Island.
The Santa Hustle Galveston brings runners, walkers, families, and plenty of holiday costumes to Beach Central for a morning that feels equal parts road race and Christmas celebration. Participants can choose among a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, or Kids Dash, giving experienced runners and casual participants several ways to join the fun.
PICK YOUR CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE
You don’t need to be training for a half marathon to earn your place among the Santas. The day’s schedule offers several distances, beginning with the Kids Dash at 7:30 a.m. The Half Marathon starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 10K and 5K at 8:15 a.m. Start times and other event details are subject to change, so participants should confirm the schedule as race day approaches.
The Kids Dash is a 1K course for children age 12 and younger, and parents can run alongside their registered child at no additional charge. Registered young runners receive their own race bib, long-sleeve shirt, Santa hat and beard, and finisher medal.
EXPECT A FINISH LINE WITH A LITTLE EXTRA CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
This isn’t a race where everyone packs up the moment they cross the finish line. Holiday touches are woven into the experience, and festive attire is part of the atmosphere. Santa hats, beards, Christmas sweaters, and other seasonal outfits turn the course into something you don’t see during an ordinary Sunday morning run.
After reaching the finish line, participants can celebrate with cookies, candy, and hot cocoa. Registered runners also receive event swag and a finisher medal, with distance pins available to commemorate completion of the Half Marathon, 10K, or 5K.
START YOUR MORNING ON THE GALVESTON SEAWALL
Race headquarters will be at Beach Central, 2102 Seawall Boulevard, putting participants right along one of Galveston’s most recognizable stretches of coastline.
Race organizers recommend arriving early because street closures and increased traffic are expected. Parking is planned at the Beach Central Parking Garage and along the north side of the Seawall, while the south side will be closed for the race.
If you’re coming from outside Galveston, arriving the day before can make race morning much easier. Pre-race packet pickup is scheduled for Saturday, December 19, although the time and location have not yet been announced. Race-day packet pickup is also available at Beach Central for a fee for paid adult participants.
DON’T HEAD HOME WHEN THE RACE IS OVER
Crossing the finish line doesn’t have to signal the end of your Galveston weekend.
December 20 falls during two of the island’s other major holiday experiences. Holiday in the Gardens at Moody Gardens continues through January 2, 2027, and THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride in Galveston runs through December 23.
That leaves plenty of ways to fill the rest of the day. Trade your running shoes for flip-flops and take a walk on the beach, grab lunch at a local restaurant, explore the historic downtown district, or save your energy for an evening of Christmas lights.
